It is worthwhile to report some of the main conclusions of the Geohazards Workshop. A key point emphasized in many presentations, in particular those of the representatives of space agencies, was the fundamental role of the global geodetic reference frames for Earth observations. Despite the fact that these frames have today an unprecedented accuracy, the limiting factor for many applications still is the accuracy. The infrastructure necessary to maintain and improve the reference frame is considered to be part of the core infrastructure for Earth observations.

With respect to geohazards, many presenters emphasized the transforming character of the geodetic techniques, and in particular of GNSS. The geodetic observations are recognized ad crucial for many geohazard-related applications, including hazard assessments, early warning, and basic research related to the processes that drive geohazards. The geodetic observations have already led to a much improved understanding of these processes and in several cases led to new discoveries.
